General Notes: Husband - James Miller

He was born in the North of Ireland, and was the oldest of a family of twelve who came to maturity. He came to Maryland in 1798; settled afterward in Franklin and then in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, but after marriage settled in Butler County and engaged in farming.

He was born in Ireland, and was brought to America in early childhood. He was a farmer by occupation, had only an ordinary English education, was a
member of the Methodist Church, a whig and republican in politics. He never engaged in public office or in military service.

One source states that his wife's name was Margaret Garvin, but this may be confusion with his mother's maiden name. Another source does not give her name, but states she was a distant relative, born in Scotland.
