He attended the common schools and in 1847 entered Elders Ridge academy, from which educational institution he was graduated in 1849. He read medicine with his father, attended lectures at Jefferson Medical college, Philadelphia, and was graduated from that celebrated institution, March 10, 1855. After graduation he located at New Derry, where he practiced continuously until 1881. In that year he removed to Derry station on the Pennsylvania railroad, where he remained in the active practice of his profession until his death.
