He was the second prior of Conrad Beissel's Dunker community at Ephrata, Pennsylvania, during the war of the Revolution, and helped to bring the wounded American soldiers from the battlefield of the Brandywine to Ephrata, where he and others cared for them in the Dunker cloister.
