The Mitchells of Pennsylvania descend from many sources and are found at early dates in Chester, Lancaster, Cumberland and Montgomery counties. They are of Scotch-Irish and English descent, and all through the years in Pennsylvania have produced leading men in law, medicine, politics and business. The antecedents of John Mitchell of this record cannot be traced-whether he was an emigrant to Pennsylvania or a native, is not known. The supposition is that he settled in Lancaster County, where he married and reared his family.
