General Notes: Husband - William E. Van Orsdel, D.D.S.


He was reared in his native town and in Beaver, Pennsylvania, and was principally educated in the Beaver Academy, also spending one year in Westminster College. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company B, One Hundredth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served three years, participating in the principal battles and campaigns of his regiment. In August, 1864, he was mustered out of service and for six months was in the government employ at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then went into the drug business at New Castle, Pennsylvania, but soon afterward removed to Philadelphia, where he continued that business until 1880. In February of the latter year he graduated at the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery, and located in practice at New Wilmington, Lawrence County. In June, 1882, he came to Sharon, Mercer County, where he continued in that profession.
Politically he was a Republican, and the family belonged to the Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Union Veteran Legion, the Masonic fraternity, A. O. U. W. and P. H. C. Dr. Van Orsdel also belonged to the Lake Erie Dental Society, the Odontological Society of Western Pennsylvania, and was one of the State Board of Examiners called for by the dental laws of Pennsylvania.
