When four years of age Mr. Montgomery's parents removed to Mercer, Pennsylvania, and he was educated at the Mercer schools, Westminster College and the Pennsylvania State College. In 1900 he engaged in business as a dealer in clothing, men's furnishing goods, etc., at Grove City, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in which he was highly successful. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. In regard to his fraternal society connections, he was a member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellows orders.
