He was educated in the Chambersburg High School and at the Chambersburg Academy. He served an apprenticeship to the drug business with W. G. Greenawalt, and was graduated at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in March, 1896. He was the promoter of the large wholesale and retail drug store firm of Greenawalt & Montgomery, organized in December, 1897. This firm conducted four stores in Chambersburg. He became proprietor of the Cressler drug store. He was a member of George Washington Lodge, No. 143, F. & A. M.
