General Notes: Husband - John Jay Pomeroy


He received his preparatory education at Tuscarora Academy, Academia, and was graduated at Lafayette College, Easton, in 1857. He taught a private school for two years, and then entered the Theological Seminary at Princeton and was graduated in 1861. He was licensed by the Presbytery of Carlisle, April 10th, and ordained by the Presbytery of Lewes, Nov. 28, 1861. In 1862 he entered the army as chaplain of the 3d Pennsylvania Reserves, and remained with the regiment until it was discharged, in June, 1864, and was afterward chaplain of the 198th P. V. I., until the close of the war. He was pastor of Upper Octarora Presbyterian Church, 1865-75; at Rahway, New Jersey, 1875-84; of the Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg, 1884-89.
