General Notes: Husband - Andrew Jackson Bard

He attended the village school until he was twelve years of age, when he entered the store of his brother, John T., as a clerk. Here he remained until 1856, having in the meantime become a partner with his brother, J. T., whom he soon bought out and engaged in business for himself, until 1858. In 1861 he was elected a justice of the peace, and served four terms. He was engaged in the timber business for outside parties for one year; was appointed a notary public, and combined with its duties the business of fire insurance, until May, 1893, when he was appointed by President Cleveland postmaster of the borough.
He spent his entire life in Centreville. In politics, he was always an unswerving Democrat, and an ardent advocate of the principles and doctrines of his party. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. beginning in 1849, and was a charter member of Slippery Rock Lodge, No. 108, A. O. U. W. The family were members of the Presbyterian church.
