General Notes: Husband - Hon. Robert Moore

He was educated at Jefferson College, when it was an academy. In 1802 he came to Beaver County, Pennsylvania, to practice law, and soon gained for himself a prominent place in the county, and was elected a member of the legislature. He represented the district in congress when it embraced a considerable portion of the state, and served two terms. When the project of building the Erie canal was agitated in 1829, the people of Beaver County again sent him to the legislature to advocate the construction of the canal, which he did to the satisfaction of his constituents.
He and his wife had a family of eight children, of whom four were still living in 1888.

He was a very successful attorney, being a member of the 15th, and also of the 16th Congress. He received his education at Jefferson College, Washington County, Pennsylvania, when that well known institution was housed in a log building, and afterward took a law course and was admitted to the Beaver County Bar; he also practiced before the Butler and Mercer County bars. In 1830 he was elected a member of the legislature to obtain an appropriation to build a canal, and was successful. He was always an active politician, and ever a stanch member of the Democratic party. He held several political offices.

He was born on a farm four miles west of Washington, Pennsylvania, and was educated at Washington College. After graduating he studied law. In 1803 he was sworn in as a member of the Beaver county bar at the organization of the court. He was a man of prominence in his day, a general of militia, and represented his district in congress for two terms, from 1817 to 1821, and also served in the state legislature.
