General Notes: Husband - Jackson E. Bard

He was reared in his native village, then known as Centreville, and attended the public schools. His first work was in his father's store, and after the latter's death he succeeded him as president of the Centreville Savings Bank. He was nineteen years old when he was taken in as a partner to his father in the mercantile business, in which he has continued without interruption into the twentieth century. He was later in partnership with his brother, Horace E. Bard, but the old firm name of Bard & Son, established in 1870, remained as the name of their firm. In 1890, the two brothers erected the large business block, in which the store was then located. They had a large general store and enjoyed an extensive trade throughout that section of the country.
Mr. Bard was a member of the board of trustees for the Slippery Rock State Normal School beginning from its inception, and was a member of the finance committee. He was a director of the Citizens' National Bank of Slippery Rock. Fraternally, he was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
Religiously, the family were members of the Presbyterian church.
