General Notes: Husband - Robert Moreland

He engaged in farming during his young manhood, but while setting up the frame of a new barn in 1851 decided to go to California to try his fortune in the gold fields, starting the next day. He was absent nine years, during which time he was given up for dead by his family. His folks at home advertised for him all over the country, and were ready to sell out his property when he returned, a stranger visiting his camp in California having told him, upon learning his name, that the papers had notices regarding his disappearance. He left camp without delay and arrived home a day before the proposed sale. Continuing farming on his old property, which comprised 120 acres, he prospered, built a new house and bank barn, and spent the rest of his life there, reaching the age of eighty-two years. He was a Democrat and a member of the U. P. Church.

General Notes: Wife - Mary Thompson

She died many years before her husband, at the age of forty-five years.
