He was educated in the grammar and high schools of his native city and supplemented this by a course in Pennsylvania State College, from which he graduated in 1921 with the degree of Bachelor of Science. Mr. Mullin pursued graduate study at State College in education and administration looking toward the higher degree of Master of Science. He became principal of the Mount Pleasant Township High School, and secretary of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
During the first World War, Mr. Mullin was a member of the Students' Army Training Corps of Pennsylvania State College under the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, a member of Marion Lodge, No. 562, Free and Accepted Masons, of Scottdale; of Greensburg Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; of Kedron Commandery, No. 18, Knights Templar, of Greensburg; Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, No. 320, of Pittsburgh, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and also was a member of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr. Mullin was superintendent of the Sunday School of the United Brethren Church of Mount Pleasant.
