He enlisted in 1862 in the 89th Indiana Volunteers for three years. He was in the following engagements, viz: Munfordsville, Kentucky, taken prisoner and parolled; the capture of Fort Derussa, Louisana; battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisana; engagement near Marksville; Yellow Bayou; battle of Nashville, Tennessee; capture of Fort Blakely, Louisiana; and several other engagements.
