He was a native of County Down, Ireland, where he was married. In 1804 he immigrated with his family to the United States, landing at New Castle, Delaware, whence they at once proceeded to South Strabane township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, where they settled on a piece of land on which he passed the rest of his life.
