General Notes: Husband - Enos Barkey


He attended the public schools until the age of fifteen years, after which he worked on a farm for five years. In 1887 he engaged in the coal business, conducting it successfully until 1890, when he admitted his brother, John Barkey, as a partner. The firm did a very large and successful business, and was one of the leading coal dealing firms of the township.

Politically, he was a Prohibitionist, but was elected on the Republican ticket to the council of Evans City. For ten years he was a director of the Evans City Cemetery Association. Religiously, he was a member of the Baptist Church. Fraternally he was a member of Evans City Lodge, I. O. O. F.
