General Notes: Husband - William Neal

The founder of the Niel family in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, was William Niel, an emigrant from Ireland, who had migrated to the vicinity of Hagerstown, Maryland, about 1760, and about the close of the Revolutionary war had removed to what later became the John Niel homestead, Young township.

He was the first of this branch of the family to settle in America, from the North of Ireland. He and his wife first located at Philadelphia, later in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and eventually came to Indiana County, in the eighteenth century, where he obtained nearly three thousand acres of land west of Indiana, near Jacksonville. He was a surveyor and became very well known.

General Notes: Wife - Mary Reynolds

She [Catharine] died at the age of eighty.
