General Notes: Husband - Samuel Hopper

He was a native of Ireland, immigrated in an early day to America, and located for a few years in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. There he married and soon after he bought a small tract of land in Allegheny County. The land was all woods at that time, but in a short time he had his land under cultivation. He was very successful in all his undertakings, and increased his wealth rapidly. He resided on this farm until his death.
His family consisted of six sons and three daughters.

When he was a lad of sixteen years he came to the United States, and after his marriage settled in South Fayette township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, two and one-half miles from Oakdale, Pennsylvania. His property was no better than wilderness at his time of purchase, but he set himself determinedly to the task of converting it into desirable farm land.
He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church, regular in their attendance, devoted in their worship.

They came to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1817, settling in Fayette township, and purchased a farm with but ten acres improved.
He was a Whig and later a Republican, and was among the organizers of the United Presbyterian Church. They came over the mountains in a two-horse wagon, and when they arrived exchanged the wagon in part payment for a farm.
