General Notes: Wife - Ellen Burns Nickle

First name Elanor (12) Eleanor (13) Buried at Nickleville. (4)

When Eleanor Burns Nickle and Peter Lovell Pryer married they went housekeeping in a small house on his father's farm which was called the "spring house" because underneath the house was a large spring and which was reached by two flights of stone steps coming toward each other with the spring beside the landing. The other part of the basement was where the milk, and butter was kept in troughs full of water from the spring. The upper part where the couple lived was called the shop and consisted of two rooms. During the winter "Love" as he was called taught school and farmed in the summer. Here in this little house Effie, the oldest child was born.
In the spring of 1876 they bought an old farm about 1½ miles southeast of Davis Corners in Rockland Twp., Venango County, Penna., and moved there intending to build the farm up to be more valuable. Here the other children, all but Lovey, were born. Here they worked very hard for about six and a half years and then tragedy struck when Lovell died from erysipelas after a very short sickness. He was a very faithful member of the Methodist Church.
After his death, Ellen, as she was called took her children and went to live with her father, Daniel Nickle and her mother, Mary Ann Nickle on their farm near Nickleville, Venango County, Penna. Where the youngest daughter, Lovey May, was born. Her mother died March 3, 1885 so she continued to live with her father until his death December 24, 1909. After his death the farm was sold September 2, 1910 and she went to live with her daughter Cora Mabel, who was married to Edwin Bagg and lived at Conewango Valley, N.Y. where he operated a hardware store and feed mill. The next spring she bought a little house and lot near the Bagg mill where she lived with her daughter Lovey until Lovey's marriage June 17, 1912, when she sold her house and went to live in a part of the large farm house they bought adjoining the village of Conewango Valley.
In summer of 1919 or 20 she had a peculiar attack in her head probably due to high blood pressure but not a paralytic stroke. She never recovered from this attack or rather the effects of it but gradually became more feeble both in mind and body. In the summer of 1922 she was no longer able to feed herself and her mind was wandering back to her childhood. On Monday, Aug. 18, 1924, about 1:00 P.M. one of the large arteries in her neck broke and caused a hemorrhage which caused her death in a few minutes. She was a very faithful member of the Methodist Church from her childhood. She was buried in the cemetery at Nickleville.
