General Notes: Husband - Caleb Oakes

Born in a county noted for its rich mineral productions, he followed mining in Staffordshire for many years. Realizing that America was a land full of opportunities for gaining wealth, he came to Pennsylvania to investigate matters, and having found satisfactory employment in Jackson Center, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, sent for his family to join him, which they did the following year. Accumulating considerable money while there mining, he invested it in land, buying a farm in Jackson township on which he lived out his life, retired from active pursuits.
