General Notes: Husband - James Shorthill

He was about five years old when he came to the United States with his parents, emigrated from Ireland to America about the year 1804 and settled in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. They afterward moved to Huntingdon County, having bought a farm of five hundred acres in the ridges five miles from the town of Huntingdon and about three miles from Mill-creek.

He sold his share of the family farm and moved with his family to Hollidaysburg about the time of the construction of the Pennsylvania railroad. Here they kept a boarding house for men who worked on the reservoir. They remained there only about three months, when, about 1846, they settled in Indiana County near to the Oatman family, some six miles east of the town of Indiana.
