General Notes: Husband - James B. Orr

He learned the trade of a fuller with John Noel, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and afterward conducted the Green Spring Woolen Mill for a brief period, and later the Frazer Woolen Mill, near Shippensburg, known as the Middle Spring Factory. In 1835 he was elected colonel of the 50th Regiment Pennsylvania Militia, and was a candidate for brigadier-general of the 2d Brigade, of the 11th Division, in 1842, but was beaten through the treachery of some of his friends. He was an active Democratic politician and was frequently a member of County and State Conventions. He was a
justice of the peace for Southampton township, Franklin County, and a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature, in 1855-56. He at one time kept a tavern at Orrstown and for many years was engaged in merchandising with his brothers. He was a member of the Reformed Church and one of the trustees of Marshall College, at Mercersburg, but afterward returned to the Presbyterian Church, in which he was born and raised.
