General Notes: Husband - Samuel Wate

His father was a native of Germany; he was one of five sons. [CBRCP-CCJS, 537]

He was a day laborer, driving a team for different furnaces in central Pennsylvania for many years. In early life he made his home in Clinton County, but later removed to Montour County, his death occurring in Danville. His wife survived him some years. Both were earnest members of the Lutheran Church, while in politics he was first a Whig and later a Republican.

Waite is an English name, found in Boston before 1640, and from New England it has spread to other parts of the United States. The name was found in Pennsylvania by 1734. [GPHNP, 111]

Most of his life was passed at Lamar, Clinton County, Pennsylvania, and he was a teamster for iron furnaces. In the affairs of the Evangelical church he took an active interest, and he held at one time or another most of the church offices.
He died at Salona, Clinton County.
