During their early married life he and his wife lived along the Allegheny River and rented cabins; he also ran a trap line for wild animals, particularly minks. He was later chief machinist at Struther-Wells, Warren, PA. In sports he was an ardent archer, and a skilled marksman. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
