General Notes: Husband - Matthew Alvin Barnes


He attended Mercer County, Pennsylvania, schools. He was a farmer and taught several terms of school. Later he attended the Western Pennsylvania Medical College in Pittsburgh, graduating on March 23, 1893. He was registered to practice medicine in Jackson Township on May 2, 1893. He lived at Pardoe and practiced medicine there and in the area for forty years. He became one of the best known doctors in the community, and served not only those who were able to pay for his services, but also those unable to pay anything with the same compassion. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church and Dr. Barnes was a Democrat.
