He was a prominent attorney of Canfield, Ohio. He was appointed judge of the United States court for the territory of Montana but resigned in about two years. He was afterwards elected judge of Mahoning County, Ohio, but died before taking office.

After the death of her husband, she made her home in Indiana, where she died at a good old age.
