General Notes: Husband - [Ancestor] Peck

The surname Peck (Peak) had its origin in a dweller at the peak or hilltop, especially at the Peak in Derbyshire, England. John del Pek is in the Hundred Rolls of London, A. D. 1273. The name is particularly characteristic of Yorkshire, probably from the vicinity of the noted Peak of Derbyshire. Henry Pek is in Kirby's Quest, Somersetshire, England, A. D. 1327. Isabella and Martyn del Pek and Ricardus del Pecke are in the poll-tax of Yorkshire, A. D. 1379.

Robert Peck of Beccles in County Suffolk, England, who married Helen, daughter of Nicholas Babbs, and his pedigree goes back twenty generations to John Peck of Belton in Yorkshire. In the eleventh generation, Richard Peck, second son of John (10) of Belton, carried on the name; his older brother, John, leaving only a daughter. Richard married the daughter and heir of --- Bruning, and his grandson, Richard, of Hesden and Wakefield, Yorkshire, married the daughter and heir of Hesselden.
Robert Peck, of the nineteenth generation, married a Normar of Beccles in County Suffolk and founded the Beccles branch. 2
