General Notes: Husband - John Gottlieb Peffer

He came to the United States with his parents in the autumn of 1817. Two years later the family came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and settled near Harmony, where he followed tailoring with his father. In 1825 he married, and about eight years later removed to a farm which he purchased in what is now Lancaster township. He continued in agricultural pursuits to the close of his life. He and his wife were members of the German Lutheran church and assisted in the erection of the stone church at Zelienople.

He was born in Switzerland, and came to America when a young man, locating in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he followed the trade of tailor. He was there joined in marriage with Rebecca Rice, with whom he subsequently moved to Jackson Township, Butler County, and settled near the town of Harmony. Shortly afterwards he purchased a farm in Lancaster Township which he improved, and there he raised a family of nine children. He continued to follow his trade, leaving the clearing and cultivating of the farm to his sons. He and his wife lived the remainder of their days on that farm.
