General Notes: Husband - John Updegraff, Esq.


He served in the Civil War: enlisted in August, 1863, in Cavalry Troop B, serving as a private for six months; he re-enlisted in August, 1864, in the Two Hundred and Eleventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and saw active service for a year. He participated in the battle of Fort Steadmen and also Petersburg, in which he was wounded, April 2, 1865, this resulting in the loss of his left arm. At the cessation of hostilities he returned home and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He served his township as justice of the peace for one term, school director for three terms, and engaged for two terms in school teaching. He later resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he had extensive real estate interests.
