General Notes: Husband - Elmer W. Rice

He was born in Sandy Creek Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in the locality known as Sandy Creek Hill, four miles south of Franklin. He was given a good education, attending the high school at Rocky Grove and later the State Normal School at Edinboro, and he was but seventeen years old when he began teaching, his first engagement being at the Lyons school in Victory Township. Altogether he taught four terms in the county, giving up that work to take a position as bookkeeper with the Oil Well Supply Company at Bullion, where this large Pittsburgh house then maintained a branch. He entered their employ Oct. 16, 1905, and later was promoted to manager, three months after the store was moved to a location at Clintonville.
He was a member of the school board for six years. In political opinion he was a Republican. He affiliated with the Odd Fellows and Masons, holding membership in the I. O. O. F. lodge at Polk, and he was a Presbyterian in religious connection.

General Notes: Wife - Elizabeth Minerva "Lizzie" Peters

Like her husband she was a successful teacher, educated at the Edinboro State Normal School, and subsequently engaged in the profession for ten or eleven terms, in Crawford, Westmoreland and Venango counties, Pennsylvania. She was for a time in the graded school at Madison, Westmoreland County, and taught in the Polk school at the same time as Mr. Rice.
