His education was acquired in the public schools of Franklin, and when ready to enter business life he engaged in the clothing trade. In 1907 he formed a partnership with F. M. Sykes under the firm name of Phipps & Sykes, clothiers, who conduct a store on Thirteenth Street which commands a large share of the local patronage. He is a York Rite Mason, affiliated with Myrtle Lodge, No. 316, F. & A. M., and Franklin Commandery, No. 44, K. T. [CAB, 855]
