General Notes: Husband - James Herbert Pifer

Du Bois, Clearfield Co, PA

He was born in Manor Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and studied in the common schools there. Later he took a business course at Duff's Business College, in Pittsburgh, then became associated with his father and uncle in business. He remained with Pifer & Hess, and G. W. Pifer Sons, till December, 1936. Aside from his work in the lumber industry, he was also active in civic and social affairs in Du Bois. For years he was a director of the Deposit National Bank. He was at one time president of the Young Men's Christian Association, and also served as president of Maple Avenue Hospital and the Du Bois Country Club. He was a mem­ber of the hospital's board of directors for twenty-one years. Among his other activities, he was a director of the Community Loan Association and the Citizens' Mu­tual Building & Loan Association and vice-president of the Jackson Vitrified China Corporation. At one period he was active in Rotary Club affairs, and he was an hon­orary member of the Rotarians after finishing the period of his more active relationship with the organization. He belonged also to the Sons of Veterans and was a mem­ber of the Modern Woodmen of America.
