In 1824, he moved to Erie County, Pennsylvania and learned cabinetmaker's trade. In 1834 he removed to Illinois; lived in Greggville [Griggsville?] and m. there. Again removed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and worked as cutter in a shirt factory.
