He was educated at West Minster College, New Wilmington, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, read medicine with Dr. A. C. Pettitt, of New Wilmington, attended lectures at the Cleveland Medical College, and graduated at the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery in June, 1876. In July following he began the practice of medicine in Pulaski, Lawrence County.
