He and three brothers were emigrants from Scotland. The three brothers perished in the Revolutionary war. He was an early settler of the vicinity of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. [HIC 1880, 466]

He was one of four brothers who served in the Revolutionary war; he was a soldier, a private.
