General Notes: Husband - J. Y. Provins


He was reared on a farm by his grandfather, who was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and a pioneer farmer of Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
He attended school in an old log school-house for a few months in winter. He chose farming as his occupation and met with marked success. He began as a farm laborer working by the month or day, but became the owner of 300 acres of valuable land.
He was a Democrat, manifested great interest in the educational affairs of his township and served as a member of the school board.
