General Notes: Husband - Andrew Barr

He and his family were quite early settlers of Adams Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. They came from County Derry [another source says County Down], Ireland, where their children were born, and were not long in selecting a place of location after their arrival, which was a tract of land called Edenderry, purchased from William Roseborough. They were subjected to great anxiety of mind while crossing the ocean. Their vessel, besides bearing human freight, was supposed to contain valuable merchandise, and was, consequently, pursued by pirate ships, who fired upon her several times.

In 1813, accompanied by his wife and three chil­dren, he immigrated to the United States, and purchased a tract of land called “Camperdown” from William Roseboro, located in what is now Adams township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. Here he and his wife spent the remainder of their lives, and did their full share towards the improve­ment of the township. They were members of the Covenanter church.
