General Notes: Husband - Capt. John C. Hilton

During the Civil War he served in the 145th Reg., P. V. I., where he rose to the rank of captain. He lost a leg at the battle of Gettysburg, and was promoted to be major and honorably discharged. He was twice elected register and recorder of Erie County, Pennsylvania, (in 1878 and 1881), serving six years. He served as postmaster of Erie under the Harrison administration until 1894.
