The public schools of his section furnished him with a sound, practical education, and he gained his farming knowledge by actual experience from his earliest years, his entire life being spent on a farm. He became the owner of a place of one hundred and forty acres, on which he raised fruit and general produce. He was a member of the Service United Presbyterian Church. His political opinions were those of the Republican party, and he served as a member of the school board for several years.
