He received his education in the public schools of his native township, and his entire life was spent on the homestead farm. The farm was conducted by Samuel and Robert M. Ramsey, they conducting their operations under the name of Ramsey Brothers. They had under cultivation upward of three hundred and thirty-three acres of land.
The brothers were members of the Presbyterian Church, Samuel M. being a member of the session for over thirty years and represented the congregation in the general assembly.
He was a director in the First National Bank of Chester, West Virginia.
