He was a native of Ireland, immigrated to Pennsylvania at an early day, and settled on 200 acres of land in what is now Fairview township, Butler County, which he cleared and improved. He carried on a distillery on his farm for some years.

She was born in Ireland and came with her parents to Maryland when a girl, whence the family removed to Butler County, PA, in 1806, and settled in what is now Fairview township.
