General Notes: Husband - Jeremiah Rankin

He came from Scotland, or Belfast, Ireland, (just when cannot correctly be ascertained, but it was long prior to the war of the Revolution). He obtained patents for about 800 acres of land, which property was afterward divided into four farms and inherited by his four sons. [HFC 1887, 868] This source speaks as he were the immigrant ancestor of the family, but this seems unlikely.

Revolutionary War: he was ensign of Capt. William Huston's company, of Col. Samuel Culbertson's battalion, Cumberland County Associators, and served as lieutenant of Capt. William Smith's company in 1780. He inherited a part of the paternal homestead on which he erected the fine stone mansion which was still standing over one hundred years later.

Revolutionary War: he served as a private in Captain John McConnell's marching company, of Colonel Abraham Smith's regiment, in service in 1778.

Two sources lists his four sons; one gives the fourth as Archie, the other as William.
