General Notes: Husband - Robert Walker Stewart

He always resided on the home farm, with the exception of three years following his marriage. He obtained his education in the early schools and this was supplemented by excellent home training. His main interest was agricultural pursuits and during his many years of activity he brought his land to a high state of cultivation and production.
He and his family belonged to the Middlesex Presbyterian Church.
During the Civil War he served one year in the Union army, enlisting in September, 1864, in Company B, Sixth Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He became a member of Reed Post, G. A. R., at Butler. In politics he was a Republican. He served as township collector and for eight years was overseer of the poor, before the County Home was established.
