General Notes: Husband - Peter Schenck


He learned the harnessmaker's trade in his native land, and subsequently served in the Prussian army. In 1832 he immigrated to the United States and settled at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, where he worked at his trade for a short time and then came to Butler County and purchased a farm in Summit township. In 1850 he bought a farm of 135 acres in Butler township, upon which he located. He was one of the many who went from Butler County to California during the gold excitement, whence he returned to his son's home in Butler stricken with Panama fever, of which he died the day after his arrival.
