She was a teacher in the Indian School at Carlisle, Pennsylvania; previously she was a teacher in the Haskell Institute at Lawrence, Kansas. She was a graduate of the West Newton Academy and of the State Normal school at California, Pennsylvania. She taught for six years in the common schools before receiving the appointment at Haskell Institute; she was uncommonly successful in her educational work among the Indians.
