He received his early education in the schools of his native township; attended the Jamestown Academy, and commenced the study of materia medica in 1864 at Buffalo Medical College, and graduated February 22, 1870. He practiced for four years with Dr. W. J. Gamble, of Mosiertown, and in 1874 he came to Hartstown, where he engaged in the practice of his profession. He has been School Director for seven years, and is now Burgess of the village. In political views he is a Republican.

He and his wife had three children, only one was still living in 1885.
