General Notes: Husband - Thomas Bartley, Sr.

He was born in County Derry, Ireland, where he was reared and learned the weaver's trade. He also served six years in the British cavalry. In 1802 he married, and in the autumn of that year immigrated to Baltimore, whence they went to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and thence to Pittsburgh. They lived in the latter city until 1808, in which year they took up their residence in Penn township, Butler County, where Mr. Bartley purchased 150 acres of unimproved land. He was a man of great industry and energy, and soon built up a home for himself and family in the wilds of Butler County, owning before he died one of the best improved farms in the township. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, and resided upon the homestead in Penn township until his death. He and his wife were pioneer members of the Associate Reformed church, and afterwards of the United Presbyterian church of Butler. In politics, he was a Democrat, and always took a deep interest in local matters.

He was born and reared in County Antrim, Ireland, and there learned the trade of weaver in the town of Milletroy, where he lived. He came to the United States at an early date and became an extensive landowner. He lived in Penn Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [TCHBC, 1426]

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Logan

Having had no previous experience in pioneer life, she was not acquainted with the inhabitants\emdash the natives\emdash of these wilds in which they settled. Had she been, she would not have tried to induce a hungry-looking dog, which she saw prowling about the cabin one day, to enter, that she might tame him. She held out a stick with mush on it, but the animal could not be coaxed nearer. When her husband returned in the evening, and she told him of the dog she had seen, he at once informed her that the dog was a wolf and not susceptible of domestication.
