He went to Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of fifteen years, and entered the grocery stores of his uncles, Joseph, Benjamin C. and Adam Ross. He subsequently, in 1846, began the grocery business on his own account at No. 15 West Baltimore street, in which he was very successful. At the time of his death his store was the oldest of its kind in Baltimore. He left a large estate.
