General Notes: Husband - Christopher P. Ruff

He removed to East Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with his parents when he was very young. He was educated in the common schools and at the West Newton Select school, and after leaving school, engaged in agricultural pursuits until he was twenty-five years of age. He then embarked in the distilling business, which he followed for three years, then removed to Venango County, where he was for a time engaged in the oil business. From there he went to West Virginia, where he engaged in the same occupation for about three years, when he returned to East Huntingdon township. He again engaged in the distilling business, in which he continued until 1871, achieving excellent success in this line. After 1871 he has devoted his entire attention to agricultural pursuits. He owned a farm of two hundred and forty-five acres, situated about one mile from Tarrs post office. In politics he accorded allegiance to the Republican party, but never aspired to the honors or emoluments of public office.
