He graduated from Monmouth College in June, 1872, from Allegheny Theological Seminary in April, 1875. He filled various appointments by the presbytery around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, going for a short time to Whitinsville, Massachusetts, and finally receiving a call to Oak Grove, in the Brown Valley Presbytery, in November, 1875. There he remained for three years, then traversed a portion of Iowa, and in October, 1879, received a call to Monroe, Iowa. He remained there until November, 1889, when he resigned to accept the appointment of the Board of Home Missions to Davenport, Iowa. In September, 1893, he accepted a call to Fredericksburg, Ohio, remaining there until April, 1900, when he responded to a call to Fair Haven, Ohio. This last pastorate he retained until October, 1904, when failing health compelled him to relinquish his work. He later resided at Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania.
